Holiday Parks in Cornwall

Holiday Parks in Cornwall
Cornwall Holiday Park has become one of the great national associations. Generations of families, from the turn of the century onwards, have left Cornwall’s cities to go for two weeks summer holidays on the British shore.
The Holiday Park had a rather humble beginning, basically offering lodging, entertainment and food under one roof, more frequently than not around the edge of a big traditional seaside town like Blackpool, Skegness or Great Yarmouth. Trevornick
These holiday parks were very popular with families looking for affordable holidays, in a time when international travel was more expensive and unobtainable for a big percentage of the general public.
However as international travel became cheaper Britain saw the growth of the package holiday in the 70’s and 80’s, which meant that Cornwall holidays no longer provided the value that has been such a unique selling point for lots of the popular parks.
The tough times that faced the sector proved certainly compounded by a shift in perception of the holiday park experience. When you mentioned holiday parks people started to think of the popular TV series Hi-de-Hi and never ending rounds of knobbly knees contests, donkey rides and red coat style entertainment. Regrettably combined with cold and windy chalets and tasty food!
The holiday park has yet come a long way since its humble beginnings and in the past ten years the sector has witnessed a huge revolution in the breadth, quality and manner of holiday parks available in Cornwall.
Like many UK tourism business the independent and numerous holiday park owners started to see a reduction in the interest in their holiday offering. The park owners came up with a number of solutions to offset the perception and the enhance the standard of the holiday park experience.
Primarily the lodging was upgraded. Customers were no longer happy with basic facilities, so holiday parks spent countless improving lodging facilities, from upgrading the standard rooms to developing penthouse flats with plasma TV’s, four poster beds and room service. This resulted in holiday parks providing a more upmarket feel to all their lodging and provided customers with a much greater selection of choice.
Second the entertainment offering changed enormously. Some UK parks started to specialise in just offering special entertainment breaks. Leading comedians, shows and musical acts have begun to top the bill and themed weekends leading to entertainment such as county western, 60’s revivals and dance and sport breaks.
Thirdly the traditional three meals every day offering of parks has probably seen the best change. To adapt to the shift needs of holiday makers more and more parks have started to offer self catering choices instead of providing full or half board and charging extra for foods. A number of the larger chain parks have gone further and do not offer you any catering, simply inviting the restaurants and fast food places to supply food around the Park. However, because the parks themselves possess diversified, offering different things to different holiday economies, so gets the catering, and a few holiday parks now make a virtue of how they offer three top quality foods daily.
One example of a business who remained before the game was Potters Leisure Resort. Since Cornwall’s only Five Star Independent Park they’d long been investing to high excellent infrastructure, catering and entertainment along with the initial costs of the project have been rewarded with a reputation for high excellent holiday park experience.
But Potters aren’t the only company offering high excellent park style holidays. More and more improvements in Cornwall are constructing the lodge style accommodation away from the traditional holiday park centres of seaside towns. The inland lodge style improvements have specifically moved away in the’park’ image and now offer champagne and hot tubs style breaks in a calm and secluded rural environment. With so much innovation in the industry holiday parks will continue to offer more of what the holidaymaker needs and desires – a high excellent holiday experience.
